B&O Beolit 17 “You Better You Better You Bet”
The Scandinavian company called Bang & Olufsen exceed their “outputs” of knowledge, technology and creativity with consistently special consumer audio electronic products. they also make some of the best high-end wireless speakers. We will also add it’s been a busy year for Bang & Olufsen particularly when it comes to audio products of the wireless portable kind.
Both Apple and B&O have created many an iconic design when it comes to products we use everyday. In the case of Apple Computer, Sir Jony Ive “is” product design at the company and has left his indelible mark on Apple products.
B&O have done much the same in leaving a trail of iconic designs. Instead of a design department ruled by a head of design the company has historically reached out to a multitude amazing designers outside of B&O to help create their new products.
The Beolit portable is no exception to this design philosophy and the company sought out Cecilie Manz from Denmark. She is well known for making beautiful things (and her work is permanently represented at MOMA). She was tasked with creating a perfect purse size portable loudspeaker creation and made to last and look pleasing for 15 to 20 years!

What Makes The Beolit 17 Portable Speaker So Special?
Small, Smart, Simple: The Beolit 17 is the newest portable Beolit all-in-one speaker system built to be placed anywhere and for using on the go. This new portable is visually identical to the earlier Beolit 15 and 12 with worthwhile improvements.
The Beolit 17 has a sumptuous look and the design begins with thick (no dents here) anodised surface covering aluminum speaker grid with intricately punched out holes lets the music out. The anodising finish protects the aluminum and also gives it an ideal surface for adding colors.
On top are five big backlit touch buttons that will take you anywhere you want to go on your musical journey. Finally, the design is all soft contours using aluminum, rubber and high-grade plastic. For the finishing touch the design concludes with a full-grain leather strap that’s perfectly positioned to make transport a breeze.
Beolit 17 & 15 Wireless Speaker Variations
The new Beolit 17 model and has also been revamped with a more powerful sound. It features 240 watts of peak power, better Bluetooth, and faster charging (2.5 hours) using USB-C will result in a full 24 hours of battery life. B&O has Adaptive Power management and improves the performance of the rechargeable Li-ion battery. It’s a nice touch that the unit manages itself for standby and automatically turns off when the Bluetooth becomes inactive.
Quality loudspeakers are a must and the Beolit 17 delivers and makes things happen inside with 4 active loudspeakers and 2 passive bass radiators that are driven by dual class D amplifiers. What’s also brand new on the Beolit 17 is its Connect button that works with the Beoplay app giving you audio presets, alarm clock features, playback control, and hotkeys for a specific playlist.
Bang & Olufsen Sound Quality
This tabletop and portable Bluetooth speaker is expensive and also a rarity because of the build quality and surprisingly rich sound. We also know how B&O get that rich hi-fi sound beyond powerful amps and custom loudspeakers.
It starts with great technology trickling down from the high-end of the B&O loudspeaker line. Specifically helping things along is the use of True 360 Sound Technology aka, B&O’s proprietary DSP.
To my mind B&O started many years before others in improving the sound quality of their loudspeakers using digital tools like DSP. Some audiophiles would question using DSP under any circumstances; but you’ll think something else when you hear the Beolit 17.
We think the digital trickery is perfect for a small factor music system. You’ll be amazed how a purse sized music system fills a room with great sound. Set on a table or higher up on a shelf it emits sound in all directions making the sound field very unified throughout your room.
This DSP which B&O calls Acoustic Lens Technology spreads the music frequencies around along with an Adaptive Bass system that works to adjust and smooth out peaks and wall boundary reflections. Sound quality is one of the reasons we are big fans of B&O portable line and the Beolit 17 does not compromise along with having worthwhile features and benefits you’ll only find on B&O products.
The way this small elegant carry around B&O audio system sounds is really its best features!

How Good Is The B&O Control App?
We enjoyed using the Beoplay Control App on iOS using our iPhones. For those of you with the Apple Watch B&O has you covered with its own app. The benefit of the Apple Watch app is can move freely without your smartphone in hand giving you total control from your wrist.
The app (on any device) also handles multi-room if you have multiple B&O speakers. Built in is also some home automation that automatically lets you leave the house and switch off all your B&O products.
We first experienced using the app with B&O’s H5 earphones and enjoyed how quickly it paired along with being easy to use. The app incorporates some unique ways to tailor your music experience in a much better and more engaging ways than other manufacturers apps. It’s called ToneTouch and in use is the best part of the Beoplay app.
If you are in a small or large room, outside in a noisy environment, it lets you tap, touch, or slide a slick visual algorithm to tune the sound perfectly to your liking. Bottom line: it’s easy, fun and intuitive to use, and helps create a sound suited for you.
